Check out this waterspout that formed in waters off Egmont Key

ST. PETERSBURG — While the chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm along the coast will remain just that this week, that doesn’t preclude the possibility a strong cell could form in the morning.

That exact scenario occurred Thursday morning as Times photographer Scott Keeler captured a waterspout as it formed just off Egmont Key in the mouth of Tampa Bay.

Since the waterspout did not move into land, it did not form into a tornado.

It is not unusual for strong morning storms to suddenly form along the coast, according to the National Weather Service:
