Clearwater Central Catholic unveils shiny new football digs

The days of cinder-block walls, minimal storage space and cramped offices are over.

On Wednesday, Clearwater Central Catholic had the grand opening of its new athletic facility that was built specifically for football. Players and family members were invited to tour the multi-million dollar complex that has luxuries most high school programs can only dream about.

There are custom lockers and a large meeting room where all the walls can be used to diagram plays. The coach's offices are equipped with state-of-the art televisions. The storage room has large bays to house all kinds of equipment.

The building was paid by an anonymous donor who pledged $1.5 to 2 million.

The school's other programs will not be left out.

The building that was used for the football offices and locker rooms will be taken over by the basketball, volleyball and soccer teams now that the athletic center is built.

The unveiling of the football program's palace coincided with Homecoming festivities. It also happened the same week the Marauders are hosting rival Calvary Christian. Both schools have had donors who opened their pocketbooks for upgrades that keep them competitive with each other.

Was the opening purposely scheduled for the Calvary game?

"I don't do anything by accident," CCC coach Chris Harvey said.
