Wesley Chapel baby dies after falling into a pool, authorities say

WESLEY CHAPEL - A baby boy who fell into a pool here Wednesday and was taken to the hospital became the latest child drowning death in Pasco County, authorities said.

Masir White, who was 10 months old, died at the hospital Wednesday night, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

Pasco County Fire Rescue responded to the call around 7 p.m. on the 30600 block of Tremont Drive.

Relatives had been watching White while his mother was at work, the Sheriff's Office said, when he walked out of an unlocked sliding door and tumbled into the pool.

There was no evidence of foul play, deputies said. No other details were released as of Thursday morning, including the mother's name.

In September, child drownings and near-drownings in Pasco had more than doubled since that time last year, according to county data, and officials for months have been strategizing a way to address the increase.
