Sharks play an important role in our oceans as the top of the food chain. Sharks' starring role is to keep fish populations in check and help maintain a healthy balance in our waters, sea grass beds and coral reefs. Catch-and-release shark and barracuda fishing is a lot of fun, but be sure to bring wire-leader or the fight will be over quickly. When fishing for smaller species, use lighter tackle and be sure to handle them safely and provide a quick release into the water. The best cut baits to bring in sharks and barracuda are mullet, bonito and mackerel - and don't forget the chum. Some shark fishing rules have changed so check with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.
