Tampa lawyer arrested on cocaine trafficking charges during undercover sting

A Tampa lawyer was among three men arrested Wednesday by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office on cocaine trafficking charges.

Robert Carr, 66, whose firm is the Resolute Law Group at 808 W Waters Ave., faces felony charges of cocaine trafficking, conspiracy to traffic cocaine and possession of a vehicle knowingly used to traffic cocaine.

Brandon Byars, 37, of Tampa and Logan Sebring, 24, of Bayonet Point were also arrested and face drug trafficking charges.

On Jan. 10, an undercover detective with the High Intensity Drug Trafficking task force arranged to meet with Byars for a drug deal ranging from 1 to 4 kilos of cocaine at $25,000 a kilo. Byars said he would arrive with a supplier, who would have to see the money first, according to arrest affidavits.

Detectives conducted surveillance on Byars. He was first seen driving a Ford F-150 into the parking lot of a Lakeland restaurant. Carr was driving a Kia Optima with Sebring as a passenger.

The men were observed looking inside the Kia’s trunk before driving to the drug deal, the Sheriff’s Office said.

When they arrived, Sebring took a backpack from the Kia’s trunk and handed it to Byars, who turned it over to the undercover detective. The men were arrested.

The backpack contained over two pounds, or 998.41 grams, of cocaine. The Kia was registered to Carr, who refused to answer questions after his arrest, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Carr, who could not be reached for comment, was booked into the Polk County jail, but was released Saturday in lieu of $35,000 bail.

According to Florida Bar records, Carr has practiced law in the state since 1985.
