The next great internet debate is upon us, but this one requires your ears instead of your eyes.
Do you hear Laurel or Yanni?
That’s the defining question for the internet today as a four-second Twitter post went viral, attracting the attention of people such as Ellen DeGeneres, Yanni and Chrissy Tiegen.
What do you hear?! Yanny or Laurel pic.twitter.com/jvHhCbMc8I— Cloe Feldman (@CloeCouture) May 15, 2018
The computer-generated sound clip, which emerged late Monday night, has people vehemently defending what they’re hearing. Some are explaining that the difference is due to the quality of the recording, the speakers, and even the age of the listener. Over the next few days there’s sure to be experts weighing in on the debate but for now, the audio argument will rage on.
It’s the biggest online debate since the blue dress vs. the gold dress..
Here is some of the chatter on Twitter.
Literally everything at my show just stopped to see if people hear Laurel or Yanny. I hear Laurel. https://t.co/efWRw1Gj0L— Ellen DeGeneres (@TheEllenShow) May 15, 2018

it's so clearly laurel. I can't even figure out how one would hear yanny.— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) May 15, 2018
Okay, I know I'm jumping on this #Laurel vs. #Yanny debate, but my sister just told me she hears #Yanny & I am freaking out— Alex Ciccarone (@AlexCiccarone) May 16, 2018
- So, please for my sanity, RT for #Laurel & Like for #Yanny pic.twitter.com/UTNUP2fzw0
The Yanny vs Laurel audio clip has me SHOOK. At first all I heard was Yanny, then I could hear either Yanny or Laurel if I trained my ears right, and now all I can hear is Laurel. pic.twitter.com/adhjFJTVTO— Andy Herren (@AndyHerren) May 15, 2018
