Floridians' average FICO credit scores increased with a new Experian program

A program created to help people improve their credit score appears to be working.

The program credit bureau Experian launched allows users to build their credit history by including payment histories for accounts such as utilities. According to Experian, Florida participants in its Experian Boost program saw an average increase of 13.2 points in their FICO credit score. Tampa Bay participants, meanwhile, added an average of 12.8 points to their score.

"When you're trying to build or improve your credit scores, it can feel like a slow, difficult uphill climb," Experian said in a release.

Nationally, 62 percent of Experian Boost participants improved their scores. Okeechobee had the single largest average boost in the country of any city, jumping 21 points on average.
