Lightning captain Steven Stamkos has turned his game around. After struggling early in the playoffs vs. the Devils and Bruins, Stamkos has been the Lightning’s best player vs. Washington. Showing lots of jump and as dangerous as ever on the power play as he showed on his first-period goal to open scoring.
Another guy who has been playing well for Tampa Bay: Cedric Paquette. He’s not a scorer, so he doesn’t get much attention. But he’s very underrated. Winning lots of faceoffs, throwing lots of check, playing good defense. And, as always, getting under the skin of his opponent.
Credit to Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy. After giving up 10 goals in five periods in the first two games, he responded solidly. He was tested early and often in the first period, facing 14 shots, but kept the Caps off the board in a crucial road period for Tampa Bay.
