The Sunrise Sale returns July 19, Amazon Prime Day and a back to school bash

UP AND AT 'EM: SUNRISE SALE
There have been many changes to the downtown St. Petersburg landscape, but there has been one constant for the past 45 years: the Sunrise Sale. Nearly 40 downtown merchants and businesses will open their doors at sunrise — 6:43 a.m. — July 19 for St. Petersburg's largest pajama party, with doorbuster sales and special offers. Wearing pajamas (the sillier the better) to the Downtown Business Association's annual event is highly encouraged and might even score you extra discounts or gifts. Pro tip: You may be shopping early in the morning, but it's still July, so consider the heat when planning your wardrobe.

The sale officially kicks off on the lawn at the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg with celebratory free cake. Local restaurants will also offer breakfast. (There were mimosas the last time I went.) Use the MFA (255 Beach Drive NE) as your starting point and grab a map of participating businesses, which will also be identified by yellow flags. facebook.com/dbastpete.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY: AMAZON PRIME DAY
Online retail giant Amazon is slashing prices Monday and Tuesday for Amazon Prime Day. You have to be a Prime member to enjoy these discounts (totally worth it), and sale items will not be revealed to all until 3 p.m. Monday, when Prime Day begins. But if you have the Amazon app you can get a sneak peek. On Prime Day you'll start to get a preview of deals, which you can "watch" to be notified when they go live. And because Amazon owns Whole Foods, the grocery chain will offer in-store discounts. amazon.com/primeday.

TIME FLIES: BACK TO SCHOOL BASH
The last thing some kids might want to do in the middle of summer is go to the Back to School Bash, but this event at Westfield Brandon on Saturday sounds pretty fun. For starters, everyone gets free school supplies, and the first 250 kids get a free backpack. From noon-2 p.m. kids can meet the Lightning's Thunder Bug and DJ Kitty from the Tampa Bay Rays. Parents can get information on school resources and health and wellness services while kids enjoy a scavenger hunt, face painting, a photo booth and more. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in front of JCPenney at 459 Brandon Town Center. westfield.com/brandon.
