That gleeful whoop you hear reverberating across the area is the collective rejoicing of Bulls fans who, for at least one autumn, are being spared from the bane of their allegiance.
Weeknight home games.
For the first time since 2013, USF won't have a weeknight home contest against an opponent not named UCF. That news was confirmed Tuesday with the formal unveiling of the American Athletic Conference's 2018 football schedule.
The Bulls and Knights, who typically clash on Thanksgiving weekend, will play on Black Friday (Nov. 23) at Raymond James Stadium. No kickoff time or TV slot formally has been set for any game.
USF opens the season at home Sept. 1 against Elon, and opens conference play at Raymond James Stadium against East Carolina on Sept. 22. The only non-UCF weeknight game is a Friday night contest at Tulsa on Oct. 12.
The '18 slate stands in stark contrast to '17, when three of USF's six home games were held on a weeknight. Two of them — Temple (Sept. 21) and Tulsa (Nov. 16) — were held on a Thursday, prompting many fans who had to work (or attend school) the next day to stay home.
Attendance for those two contests was the lowest of the Bulls' six home games.
