Things to Do in Pasco and Hernando counties starting Feb. 16

Ray Kamalay Concert: The jazz musician will perform in concert at 2 p.m. Feb. 16 at the New Port Richey Public Library, 5939 Main St., New Port Richey. Kamalay will give a lecture that puts American music in a perspective of world history, tracing the development of slavery from ancient times to its links with American society, up to the early jazz age. Locals Night: The downtown New Port Richey event has expanded to three venues: Karl Reef (6307 Grand Blvd.), Sip (6231 Grand Blvd.) and Mountaineer Coffee (5647 Main St.). Guests receive a wristband that allows them admittance to all three venues. Performing will be Julie Black, Taylor Reed, Eric and Marina Mullins, and Graeme Currie. Local artists and other vendors will be on hand. Food, beer, wine and coffee will be available for purchase. This is a kid-friendly event; all ages welcome. New Port Richey Strawberry Festival: Celebrate spring strawberry season while helping pets in need at this festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 17 at Community Congregational Church, 6533 Circle Blvd., New Port Richey. This is a dog-friendly event that will include a fun dog show and agility fun walk. There will be strawberries, strawberry shortcake and other food for sale; vendor booths, a kid zone, raffles and music. Chili Cookoff: Sample chili, vote for your favorite and help support People Helping People from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Lake House, 1202 Kenlake Ave., Spring Hill. Craft beer, provided by Marker 48 Brewing, will be available for purchase. Entertainment will be provided by the Tyler Creek Road Band. She Loves Me: Shows are at 8 p.m. Feb. 14-17 and Feb. 23-24, and at 3 p.m. Feb. 18 and 25 at Dreamhouse Theatre, 1840 Oak Grove Blvd., Lutz. Set in the 1930s, this romantic comedy tells the tale of Amalia and Georg, two coworkers at a Hungarian perfume shop. Love Letters: The show will be performed for one weekend only: 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16, and 2 p.m. Feb. 17 and 18, at Stage West Community Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. A.R. Gurney’s play centers on two characters, Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III. Despite their differences, the two remain each other’s trusted confidants, and are true lovers on paper. Pasco Fine Arts’ Annual Exhibit: This is the council’s largest competition of the year and features works in all mediums. It continues through Feb. 23 at the Pasco Fine Arts Center, 4145 Fairford Drive, New Port Richey. Call (727) 845-7322. pascoarts.org.

‘Animals, Animals, Animals’: The exhibit continues through March 3 at the Uptown Art Gallery at Brooksville City Hall, 201 E. Fort Dade Ave., Brooksville. The exhibit features a variety of animals, including insects and reptiles, in fun, serious, cartoon or scenic pictures in all mediums. The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Florida Skating Academy’s Presidents Day Invitational: Florida Skating Academy hosts this competition from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 17 and 18 at SpinNations Skating Center, 8345 Congress St., Port Richey. Including skaters from 13 competitive clubs throughout Florida, as well as skaters from areas such as New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, South Carolina and Ohio. Skaters will be competing from the Tiny Tot through World Class divisions, and there will be several adult-participated dance events as well. The snack bar will be open throughout the competition. Pasco Posse’s Saddle Up For Charity: Horse owners can bring their horses and join in this riding event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 17 at Diamond B Ranch, 21309 Kettering Road, Dade City. With music, vendors, raffles, auctions and drawings. A meal is included with every rider registration.
